Theoretically, it’s not only possible to hold orthodox (or, if you prefer, traditional) theological views in one hand and progressive social and political views (to a point) in the other, but also, in an abstract, platonic, logical sense, more probable than not, all else being equal. That the combination appears rare in my experience of American reality must be the result of something external to The Book: Perhaps my limited vantage. Perhaps alogical sociohistorical pressures.
